（The Japan Report）Double standard
───────────────────────────────────

In my last "Japan Report", I took up the subject of the "Emperor".
The Japanese Imperial Family is the oldest existing dynasty in the
world, and is deeply rooted in the spiritual culture of the Japanese
people.

However, if you look at Japanese history, you will find that there are
very few periods in which the emperor was the supreme authority
and actually conducted politics.

In the Heian period (794-1185), politics was mainly conducted by
aristocrats such as the emperor's relatives. After the Kamakura
period (1185-1333), the shogunate was in charge of politics for
a long time. It was not until the Meiji era (1868-1912) that the
emperor returned to the political stage, some 150 years ago.

I believe that this dual structure of power is the origin of the
Japanese people's frequent use of the "double standard" of "real
intention" and "tatemae".

The Constitution of Japan stipulates that Japan shall not have
an army, but in reality, Japan has an army called the Self-Defense
Forces. Gambling and prostitution are banned in Japan, but these
establishments are operating legally.

In Japan, there are many things that are determined by the
constitution and laws, but are forcibly made legal using some
incomprehensible logic.

This kind of double standard can also be seen in faith. For example,
Japanese style Christianity. This is a theology conceived before
World War II, and it is a Christianity centered on the emperor.
Japanese style Christianity forces people to visit shrines and is a fake
Christianity, choosing to serve the government rather than Christ.


（日本リポート）二重の基準

前回の日本リポートでは、"天皇 "をテーマに取り上げました。
日本の皇室は現存する世界最古の王朝であり、日本人の精神文化に深く
根ざしています。

しかし、日本の歴史を見ると、天皇が最高権力者であり、実際に政治を
行っていた時代は非常に少ないことがわかります。

平安時代は、天皇の親族などの貴族が中心になって政治を行っていま
した。鎌倉時代以降は、長い間、幕府が政治を行っていました。天皇が
政治の舞台に戻ってきたのは、今から150年ほど前の明治時代になって
からです。

このような権力の二重構造が、日本人が「本音」と「建前」といった
「二重の基準」を頻繁に使うようになった原点ではないかと思います。

日本国憲法では「日本は軍隊を有しない」と規定されていますが、実際
には自衛隊という軍隊を持っています。日本では賭博や売春は禁止されて
いますが、これらの店は合法的に営業しています。

日本には、憲法や法律で決められていることが、訳のわからない理屈で
無理矢理合法化されていることがたくさんあります。

このような二重の基準は、信仰にも見られます。例えば、日本式キリスト
教。これは戦前に考えられた神学であり、天皇を中心としたキリスト教
です。日本式キリスト教は、神社参拝を強制し、キリストよりも政府に
仕えることを選んだ、偽物のキリスト教です。
